Our 'Future Teachers Programme' offers a unique pathway for graduates seeking practical experience before embarking on formal teacher training. Whether you're considering a career as a teacher or exploring various roles within the education sector, this programme is tailored to nurture your skills and prepare you for success.
As part of our 'Future Teachers Programme,' successful candidates will have the opportunity to work as Cover Supervisors in a secondary school located in Okehampton. In this role, you will step in during short-term absences of teachers, ensuring continuity of learning by overseeing pre-set tasks provided by the teacher.
As a Cover Supervisor, your primary responsibility will be to supervise the class as they engage with the assigned tasks. While no active teaching, marking, or planning is required, you will play a crucial role in maintaining a conducive learning environment and facilitating the completion of set work. This hands-on experience will provide you with valuable insights into the dynamics of classroom management and student engagement, offering a realistic glimpse into the responsibilities of a teacher.
Whilst on your placement:
During your placement, you will engage in various activities aimed at enriching your teaching experience. This includes maintaining a reflective journal to document your daily experiences, observing lessons within your subject specialism as well as across other subjects to gain a comprehensive understanding of teaching styles and methods. You will have the opportunity to learn from different staff members, understanding their approaches to effective differentiation, behavior management, and the execution of non-subject activities like registration and assemblies. Additionally, you will collaborate with the entire staff team to support the school's pastoral systems, contributing to student development. Lastly, you will familiarize yourself with the school's policies, exploring their development and underlying rationale.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
