Teaching Personnel are working in partnership with secondary schools across Cambridge to recruit enthusiastic graduates and career changers for an exciting salaried teacher training programme, starting in November 2026.

Whether you're a recent graduate exploring your first career move or an experienced professional looking for a rewarding change of direction, this programme offers a structured and supported pathway into teaching.

This two-year programme provides a structured route into teaching, combining paid school-based experience with fully funded teacher training.

During your first year, you will work as a Cover Supervisor, gaining hands-on experience of life in a secondary school. You will work alongside experienced teachers, develop your classroom management skills and gain a genuine understanding of what it takes to be an effective teacher.

Following a successful first year, you will progress into formal teacher training and work towards achieving your PGCE and Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).

Your first year will focus on developing your confidence, classroom experience and understanding of the secondary school environment.

As a Cover Supervisor, you may be responsible for:

• Supervising lessons using work and resources provided by teaching staff
• Maintaining a positive and productive learning environment
• Supporting pupils with their classwork
• Managing classroom behaviour in line with school expectations
• Building positive relationships with pupils and staff
• Working alongside teachers and support staff
• Observing experienced teachers
• Taking part in training and professional development
• Developing your communication, organisation and classroom management skills

Once you have successfully completed your first year, you will progress into formal teacher training within a school environment.

You will work towards:

• PGCE - Postgraduate Certificate in Education
• QTS - Qualified Teacher Status

Throughout your training, you will receive ongoing mentoring and support as you develop your teaching practice.

You will gradually take on greater responsibility for planning and delivering lessons, receive regular feedback and put your training into practice within the classroom.
