Cover Supervisor - Farnborough

Immediate and September Starts | Flexible, Long-Term and Permanent Opportunities

Are you considering a career in teaching and looking to gain valuable classroom experience? Perhaps you are a graduate preparing for teacher training, an unqualified teacher looking to develop your skills, or an experienced teacher seeking greater flexibility and a better work-life balance.

Teaching Personnel is recruiting confident and enthusiastic Cover Supervisors to support secondary schools across Farnborough.

With immediate and September starts available, this is an excellent opportunity to build your classroom experience, inspire young people and take the next step in your education career.

Why Become a Cover Supervisor?

Cover supervision is one of the best ways to gain practical experience in a secondary school. You will lead classes during teacher absences, supervise work that has already been prepared and ensure students remain engaged with their learning.

Unlike a classroom teacher, you will not usually be responsible for lesson planning or marking.

This role will allow you to:

  • Build confidence leading a classroom
  • Develop behaviour management skills
  • Gain experience across Key Stages 3 and 4
  • Work with different subjects and year groups
  • Strengthen teacher training applications
  • Make a positive difference to young people
  • Enjoy greater flexibility and work-life balance

Who Is This Role For?

This opportunity would suit:

  • Graduates considering a career in teaching
  • Aspiring teachers preparing for a PGCE, SCITT or other training route
  • Unqualified teachers building classroom experience
  • Qualified or former teachers seeking greater flexibility
  • Teaching assistants ready to progress
  • Tutors, coaches, mentors and youth workers
  • Career changers with experience supporting young people

Previous Cover Supervisor experience is helpful but not essential. You will need to be confident, adaptable and able to establish positive relationships with students and staff.

The Role

As a Cover Supervisor, your responsibilities may include:

  • Supervising pre-planned lessons across Key Stages 3 and 4
  • Communicating lesson instructions and expectations
  • Managing behaviour in line with school policies
  • Maintaining a calm and productive classroom
  • Encouraging students to complete their work
  • Supporting students with additional learning needs
  • Building positive relationships with pupils and colleagues
  • Providing feedback to teaching staff after lessons

You will not be expected to plan lessons or teach unfamiliar content from scratch. Your focus will be on providing confident classroom leadership and maintaining continuity of learning.

What We Are Looking For

Successful candidates will ideally have:

  • Experience working with children or young people
  • Confidence communicating with secondary-aged students
  • A calm, professional and resilient approach
  • Strong interpersonal and organisational skills
  • The ability to establish clear boundaries
  • Flexibility and adaptability
  • A genuine interest in education
  • A commitment to safeguarding and student welfare

Relevant experience may have been gained through schools, tutoring, coaching, mentoring, childcare, youth work or another transferable setting.

Opportunities Available

Teaching Personnel can offer:

  • Flexible day-to-day supply
  • Short-term and pre-booked cover
  • Long-term placements
  • Full-time and part-time opportunities
  • Term-time working
  • Routes into permanent school roles
  • Experience to support teacher training applications

You will benefit from:

  • Support from a dedicated education consultant
  • Access to opportunities across Farnborough
