Role: Cover Supervisor (Secondary Schools)
Location: Brighton and Hove
Contract: Part-Time / Flexible Supply
Start Date: Ongoing from September 2026
Daily Rate: £100 – £120

Supply Desk is working in partnership with a number of welcoming and supportive secondary schools across Brighton and Hove, who are seeking confident and reliable Cover Supervisors to join them on a flexible basis. This is a fantastic opportunity for individuals looking to gain experience in education or those seeking a varied and rewarding role within schools.

About the Role

As a Cover Supervisor, you will oversee whole classes during the short-term absence of teachers, ensuring that students remain on task and continue their learning. You will deliver pre-set work across KS3 and KS4 and play a key role in maintaining a positive and productive classroom environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise classes in the absence of the regular teacher
  • Deliver pre-prepared lesson materials and instructions
  • Manage classroom behaviour in line with school policies
  • Ensure students remain engaged and on task throughout lessons
  • Provide feedback to teaching staff on student progress and behaviour
  • Support the wider school team where necessary
  • Foster a safe, respectful, and inclusive learning environment

Candidate Profile

  • Experience working with young people (e.g. in schools, youth work, coaching, or similar settings)
  • Confident, resilient, and adaptable approach
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to manage classroom behaviour effectively
  • Organised and able to follow instructions and lesson plans
  • A genuine interest in education and supporting young people

Requirements

  • No Teaching qualifications required, Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
  • Previous experience working with children or young people is desirable
  • Enhanced DBS certificate on the Update Service (or willingness to apply)
  • Two professional references
  • Eligibility to work in the UK
